Since 1 January 2024, private individuals in Belgium are required to register their home charger with their grid operator. This new obligation responds to a need to better understand the future electricity needs of households and businesses, especially with the expected increase in the number of electric vehicles on Belgian roads. This information will help grid operators to assess changes to the distribution network and to make targeted adjustments.
If you have had a home charger installed, you are therefore required to register it with your grid operator. Anyone who fails to comply with this obligation risks an administrative fine of 250 euros.
The declaration of charging stations for electric vehicles is mandatory throughout Belgium, but the specific authorities differ per region:
Flanders: All charging points with a charging capacity of 5kVA or more that you connect to the low-voltage network must be registered with Fluvius .
private individuals must register their charging point with the grid operator Sibelga .
You will need the following information when completing the form*:
EAN code of your existing electricity connection
Installer's name
Charging station model name
Type of charging station
Is the home charger controlled intelligently?
Maximum set power per charging point
When asked for the owner of the charging station, enter your own contact details.
Always report your home charger as Private - Unidirectional, even if it is semi-public.
*More details about your charging point can be found on the inspection certificate that you received when your charging point was inspected.
