Am I required to register my home charger with my grid operator?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Since January , 2024 private individuals in Belgium have to register their home chargers with their grid operator. This new requirement responds to a need to better understand the future electricity needs of households and businesses, especially with the expected increase in the number of electric vehicles on Belgian roads. This information will help grid operators assess changes to the distribution network and make targeted adjustments.

Important: Anyone who fails to comply with this obligation risks an administrative fine of 250EUR.

Where should I file this declaration?

The declaration of charging stations for electric vehicles is mandatory throughout Belgium, but the specific authorities vary by region:

  • Flanders: All charging points with a charging capacity of 5kVA or more that you connect to the low-voltage grid must be registered with Fluvius .

  • Wallonia : In the Walloon Region, every grid user with a charging point is obliged to report this to one of the following grid operators: ORES , RESA , AIEG , AIESH REW

  • Brussels : In the Brussels-Capital Region, private individuals must register their charging point with the grid operator Sibelga .

What information do I need?

  • EAN code of your existing electricity connection

  • Installer name

  • Charging station model name

  • Type of charging installation

  • Is the home charger controlled intelligently?

  • Maximum set power per charging point

When asked for the owner of the charging point, enter your own contact details.

Technical details about your charging point can be found on the inspection certificate you received when your charging point was inspected.

Always register your home charger as Private - Unidirectional , even if it is set to semi-public.
